Tumbling '101'

Obsidian-
1. Don't mix Apache tears or obsidian from various locations. You won't get a bright smooth polish and the edges of the stones may be slightly rough. Do not even mix obsidian you've dug from different locations, even a block apart.
2. Reduce the quantity of fine grit, one-fourth pound of 3F or 600 grit to eight pounds of stone.
3. Reduce the tumbling speed in the polish stage. Use plenty of tin oxide and add lots of sugar. It makes a thicker syrup which will slow down the tumbling.
4. In the detergent soap run add enough Ivory flakes to make a very thick syrup.

OK, so here I go!

I think it is interesting to try and do something with the stone I polish. I am 'dinking around' with wire and making what could be considered jewelry. The wire I'm using is cheap, and my attempts are all practice, since Silver wire is a little pricey.

So then, sell the wire wrapped stones? Give them away?

There are tons of folks doing this much better than myself, so either I get Really, Really good at it, or just stay mediocre.

I'll post some photos as I progress, and you be the judge. I am too hard on myself (always have been), and the more I look at it the worse it begins to appear. We shall see.
